Care Home Food Preparation
Unfortunately due to the lack of adequate staffing levels sometimes patients can suffer from malnutrition and dehydration as well as sickness because of poorly prepared food.
Can be linked to some of the more life changing events that happen in care homes and it is a common complication of those suffering from dementia or from a stroke or diabetes.
Nutrition.org.uk state “Poorly hydrated individuals are more likely to develop pressure sores and skin conditions”
Medication may cause dehydration which is why fluid intake is extremely important and should be monitored closely. Dehydration can be avoided if care home staff are adequately trained.
The Nursing Times published an article in December 15 which states at least a third of care home residents are affected by malnutrition. Research was carried out by the charitable association BAPEN (British Association for Parental and Enteral Nutrition).
Around 10% of care homes reported they did not provide staff training on malnutrition whilst almost 40% of patients who had gone to a care home from hospital were already malnourished. Those who were malnourished upon admission, continued to lose weight where those who were not malnourished gained weight.

Can I sue the NHS?
The NHS was created so that good healthcare should be available to all, and it is one of the country’s proudest achievements. However, if something goes wrong during your treatment you deserve answers and, where necessary, financial compensation.
We do not treat your claim lightly. The treatment you consider negligent must be considered unreasonable, irresponsible, and harmful.
However, when someone suffers an injury that impacts their live, or that of a loved one, then it is vital that the NHS has the procedures in place to both compensate the patient and learn from their mistakes.
