Recall of Zimmer Biomet shoulder joint
In late 2016, the medical device manufacturer Zimmer Biomet issued an urgent recall of its reverse shoulder tray due to an increased risk of the device failing once implanted.
A reverse shoulder tray is part of a medical device used in a shoulder joint replacement where people suffer from conditions such as arthritis. The affected joints will have been manufactured before September 2011 and given to Orthopaedic Surgeons between September 2010 and January 2017. Devices manufactured after May 15 have enhancements to the design.
The UK Government have issued warnings to doctors not to implant certain lots of the Comprehensive Shoulder Humeral Trays.
